March, 2003

This is the month of March. Lots of things happened in March for example we took a long, bike ride, Mark got his first major vehicle which is a motor cycle, and a third of our chickens got attacked by three wild dogs. First I will tell you about the bike ride. We also got one thousand new trees we had to plant.

It was a very nice day out and very warm so we decided to take a nice long bike ride. So we packed up the bikes and put them in the back of the truck and drove to Muncie, Indiana. It took us about an hour to get there. When we got there we took our bikes and rode them down the bike trail. It was the first bike ride of the season. We rode to town which was about nine miles. We went to a gas station to get a snack and got pizza and bread sticks and ate them up. It was good. Then we headed on our way back. It was another nine miles back, but half way I started to get a little tired but made it back. It was very tiring but I had fun though. There were lots of other riders and walkers. The next morning Mom and I was kind of sore.

Mark got his first major vehicle which is a motor cycle. He bought it off a local guy. It is black and blue. I think it it pretty cool myself. He can ride it to school and all sorts of different places. I cannot wait to get my own vehicle and to be able to drive. He has his permit right now but in August he will get his real license.

Next thing I am going to tell you about is when our chickens got killed by wild dogs. We think it was about two or three wild dogs that did it. One morning we woke up, Mark, Nick, and I went off to school and dad went to work as usual while Mom stayed at home. Anyway, in the morning she went out to feed the chickens and when she got out there she realized they had been attacked by something. The dogs killed  nine chickens including our one and only rooster and drug one off. They hurt two more chickens, but they survived. When Mark, Nick, and I got home mom told us what happened and I was sad.

This year we got one thousand trees to plant. That is a lot of little pine trees to plant! It took us two days to plant them. The first day Daddy and I planted about 150 trees. Mark and Nick planted about one hundred trees. Dad took one day off so he could plant trees while Mommy helped. That day they planted about 650 pine trees. It took them about six hours to do it all. When we got back from school mom told us that we had only one hundred trees left to plant. We were so happy! That day we finished planting all the trees but even though it was hard work, we got it done. What an exciting month of March!
