June, 2000

Well to start off in June on the 1st was the last day of school. I am glad that it is over because I was getting tired of it. The main problem is that we have to get up at six o'clock to get a ride on the bus. The ride to school takes an hour and we live three minutes away from the school.

On the 10th we got up at at 6 a.m. and we packed up and we were on the road by 7 a.m. We drove for about six hours and then we set up camp at Newaygo state park. After we got every thing set up we went swimming at the big lake there. The next day we headed north and we dropped off the camper at Traverse City state park . Then we went to the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes. There was a 1.7 mile trial to Lake Michigan and we made it all of the way. There are some steep sand dunes there. I Took off my shoes and climbed on the sand Dunes. On Monday we went up to Mackinaw City and took a Star Line Hydro Jet Ferry to Mackinac Island. The only thing different thing about it is that there are no cars allowed on the island. The only way to get around is by foot, bikes, or horses. Some people live there year round. But most only stay there for the summer months. There is a hotel on the island called the Grand Hotel. To stay there for one night it costs 400 dollars. We rented two tandems and one single bike to ride around the island for two hours and we hiked a couple trails. Then we took the ferry back and then went across the Mackinaw Bridge that is five miles long. Once we got across we stayed at Straits state park. Then the next day we drove to Whitefish Point to see a Shipwreck Museum. It is right along the shore of Lake Huron. There was a lot of ships that wrecked near there. Most of them were when two ships hit each other. Then we went and stayed at Lower Tahqaumenom Falls. The next day we drove all of the way to Munising and we went on a glass bottom shipwreck tour and we saw three sunken ships. After that we drove south to Fayette and camped there. The next morning we got up and walked around the Ghost Town there. Then we went to the Mystery Spot , it was cool. That night we stayed at a hotel in Mackinaw City. Then finally we drove all of the way home that day.

Later that month we decided to build a little boat that is 8 feet long and it is shaped like a bullet. It is painted white, green, and brown. It floats and it is stable so that is good. Once we get some better ores then we will take it down the creek. This was a fun month.
