January, 2002!

On New Years Eve our church had a New Years party.  It was a dartball party for the people that play dartball.  We got there at seven thirty in the evening and we stayed until midnight.  We brought our old Nintendo and the kids played video games while the adult played dartball.  The kids also played board games.  One girl brought a game called Mall Madness.  It is  a game that you go around and buy different things in the mall and you try buy things that are on sale or on clearance.  It was also a pizza party and a junk food party.  At midnight we all gathered around the T.V. to watch the bomb drop.  After the bomb drop everyone packed up and went home.

The next day, which was New Years day we went ice skating on our pond.  It finally got thick enough to skate on.  The ice was about five inches thick which is plenty thick to skate on.  We got a hockey puck and we would throw it across the pond and the person on the other side would catch it and throw it back.  Sometimes we would just run on it with your shoes on then fall down and slide on the ice.  Even our grandpa walked on the ice and it did not break.   Once on a while you will hear this cracking sound from the ice.  You would think the ice was going to break and you would fall in but it was only about an inch of ice at the bottom that would crack.  It looked like lightning when you looked a it.   It looked cool when you looked at it.

The bad thing about having the pond froze is that I have to go outside and break an area of the ice with a shovel for my ducks to swim in because every morning it would be frozen.  Every morning the ducks were waiting for me to break the ice so they could swim and get a drink.  Also when I went to feed them they acted like they were starving.  I would feed them and the food would be gone in less than a minute.

Our grandpa Howell came and visited us on a Tuesday this month.   The only problem was that we have boy scout meetings on Tuesday nights.  We had to skip boy scouts that night.  He came with his friend Chuck also.  He stopped on the way to Pennsylvania to see a show.  Chuck loves shooting the potato gun that we made in boy scouts.  Every time that they come he wants to shoot it.   He almost hit one of the ducks that were in the pond.  It shoots one whole potato about one hundred yards.  Grandpa brought some of his handguns and we got to shoot those.  We set up some cans outside but they were hard to hit.  Grandpa was the only one to hit one of the cans.
